Springtime is coming… isn’t it lovely to enjoy all the joys of spring? Ella has a cake recipe that she likes, and I thought it very suitable for this time of year, so maybe you´d like to try it out with your children.

You Need:

 250g Butter

200g Sugar

4 Eggs (medium)

3 ripe bananas

½ lemon

280g flour

1 packet baking powder

150g icing sugar

Green and yellow food colouring

Smarties and 2 lollies

Method: Grease a round baking tin, springform (24-26 cm) set oven 180°c.

Cut the butter into small pieces, add sugar and mix well. Add eggs a little at a time, mix well. Peel and cut bananas into a blending cup. Squeeze the lemon and add juice to bananas. Puree with a blender. Add the banana puree to the butter, sugar and egg mixture. Add the flour and baking powder. Gently fold the mixture together, using a wooden spoon. Pour the mixture into the baking tin. Bake in the middle of the oven for 45 minutes.

Leave cake to rest for 15 minutes. Remove from baking tin and leave to cool on a wire cooling rack.

Time to get creative!

Using a ruler, cut a 2 cm thick strip from the centre of the cake. Place the strip (butterfly’s body) in the centre of a large plate. Take the two ½ circles and place them left and right of the centre strip (to look like wings).

Cake decoration: prepare the icing sugar in a bowl, add water to make a smooth paste. Place 2 spoons of the icing into a small bowl and add the green food colouring. Spread the green icing onto the butterfly´s body. Add yellow food colouring to the rest of the icing sugar. Spread over the wings. Decorate the wings with smarties. Add the two lollies to the butterfly´s head.

Enjoy the cake and celebrate spring!

Hello parents and happy Wednesday! Today’s exercise is all about cooperation and trust, while practicing our awareness, making it stronger. The exercise is called, Lost and Found and requires pair work.  It’s a very short exercise, only 5 minutes is all you need and no props, well maybe some relaxing music would be a nice touch. This is pair work, so the whole family can give it a go, let’s begin!

  • All this is done with eyes closed and no talking to each other, only the parent who is giving the instructions should be talking.

  • Have your pairs stand face to face with eyes closed
  • Ask them to bring their hands up to chest height, slowly and carefully
  • Encourage the little ones to focus on their hands, do they feel warm or cold?
  • Now, ask the children to stretch their hands forward a little
  • Ask “can you feel the warmth of your partners hand?”
  • Have them move their hands forward until they bump into their partners hands
  • Ask partners to put their palms together and keep them there
  • Then the pairs slowly bend their knees a little and come back up together

  • Keeping their eyes closed, pairs should pull their hands back
  • Now, they should turn around 3 times on the spot
  • Come back to face your partner
  • Challenge them to stretch out their hands again and find their partners hands

A short and simple exercise that develops body awareness, while also helping them to feel another person’s presence and energy.  Hope you enjoy this with the little ones and have a lovely weekend everybody!

This is a lovely tree that the children can draw but instead of the autumn leaves they can draw flowers or blooms on the tree and write something in what they are thankful for. Maybe the whole family can join in the fun and make a family tree out of it.

Take care
